Frequently asked questions
General
Can Retyc read my files?
No. Your files are encrypted in your browser before being sent. Retyc's servers only store encrypted data. Even the Retyc team cannot access the content of your files.
What happens when a transfer expires?
The link becomes inaccessible and the files are deleted from Retyc's servers. This deletion is permanent.
Does the recipient need a Retyc account?
Not necessarily. For a public link, the recipient can download without an account. If you have restricted access to specific email addresses, the recipient must log in or create an account.
What is the difference between a transfer and a data room?
A transfer is one-time and temporary (it expires). A data room is a persistent space for recurring exchanges with managed access.
Security
What happens if I lose my passphrase?
Unfortunately, Retyc cannot recover your passphrase — it is never known to our servers. Without a passphrase, it is impossible to decrypt the files associated with your keys. Keep it in a password manager.
Can I trust a Retyc link received by email?
Always verify that the link points to retyc.com or app.retyc.com. If in doubt, contact the
sender directly to confirm they sent you a file.
Does encryption work on mobile?
Yes. Retyc works in any modern browser, including on mobile. Encryption and decryption are performed in the browser.
Account & billing
How do I change my email address?
Contact Retyc support. Changing your email address requires a security verification.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From your dashboard, go to Settings > Subscription and follow the instructions to cancel. Your data remains accessible until the end of the current period.
Is my data deleted when I close my account?
Yes. When your account is deleted, all your files, keys, and personal data are deleted from our servers.
